If you have ever bought a house that hasn’t been updated in a while, you have probably thought about buying new door knobs. Depending on how many doors you have, this can be a quick and cheap upgrade or a substantial blow to your budget.
With the purchase of our house came a whole lot of brass. Brass switch plates, brass outlet covers, and brass door knobs everywhere. With a 2,700 square foot house, that’s a lot of brass. Spray paint took care of the plates and covers rather nicely but the door knobs were a different matter. Going against my husband’s insistence that it wouldn’t work, I spray painted our upstairs knobs. That’s 14 knobs and not one turned out well. In fact, the paint has started rubbing off and the brass show through. I knew we would eventually give in and buy new knobs but the cost definitely delayed that.
I was contacted by Unhinge for a review of their products and I’m pretty sure I did a happy dance. Just the knowledge of the existence of Unhinge makes me happy because I finally have a feasible way to update all the door knobs. With knob sets as low as $7.02 on clearance, and prices set at 50% – 65% off list, it’s hard not to get excited for my soon-to-be updated doors.
The choice was not an easy one because the available selection was so large. There were the more traditional options and then there were the dream come true options at prices that made my jaw drop. I was a kid in a candy store but eventually decided on the Sandcast Verona by EZ Set handleset in Aged Pewter for our front door as well as the Olympus by EZ Set knob in stainless steel for our entrance from the garage.
When they arrived, I was beyond pleased with the quality. The sets have a heft to them that our existing knobs and handleset lacked, they are solid. Both have a great finish to them. I might have been just as happy with the garage knob as the front door handleset because it’s replacing the one knob in particular I took an instant dislike to. Why? Not two days after we moved in, I walked out through the garage to take out the trash and the door locked behind me. It had been locked but the knob was one of those that still turned from the inside so it allowed me to open the door without realizing it was locked. I ended up kicking the door in because I didn’t have my phone, we now lived far enough from neighbors to take a few minutes (if not more) to retrieve help and my babies were by themselves. Don’t mess with mama. Take that door! Anyway, this new knob doesn’t turn from the locked side which makes me very, very happy.
Replacing the front door handleset was pretty quick with things lining up to the existing holes except for the small bottom one. The instructions were easy to follow and a template was included if new holes were needed. The handleset is so pretty that we know we need to update the door now. We have never owned a handleset this nice. It’s just that gorgeous!
Unhinge also has hinges, deadbolts, bathroom accessories and more! And all for huge discounts and free shipping on purchases over $100. Now go update those knobs!
